This delicious treat combines sweet and tangy grapes with the fabulous zesty kick of mint and lime for the perfect balance of flavours in every spoonful. This sorbet has been a HUGE hit with my family, and I hope yours will love it too!

Difference between sorbet and ice cream
Whilst sorbet and ice cream certainly have their similarities, they are actually really quite different.
Sorbet is a refreshing frozen dessert that is always fruit based. It is made using fruit juice or puree, sugar, and sometimes water. Since it is made with these simple ingredients, it is naturally dairy-free and tends to have a softer texture than ice cream due to the lack of dairy content.
By contrast, ice cream is a creamy frozen dessert that is very much dairy based, using milk or cream, sugar, and sometimes eggs. Since it contains dairy, ice cream has a wonderfully rich and indulgent texture and flavour. It also has a smoother, denser and more creamy texture compared to sorbet.

Ingredients for grape sorbet recipe
- Grapes: the star of the show! I used mojito grapes to make this frozen grape sorbet, but you can use a different one if you wish. Always use the highest quality fruit you can find for the best results.
- Sugar: a white sugar such as granulated or caster is best here to not affect the finished colour of the sorbet whilst adding sweetness and stability to the sorbet green grapes.
- Lime: just the juice is added, for a delicious sharpness reminiscent of the classic cocktail. Have extra limes to hand if you wish to garnish with a slice or wedge of lime too.
- White rum: an optional extra, to give this irresistible mojito sorbet a lightly boozy kick.
- Mint: for me, this is a definite for a garnish to the finished green grape sorbet. Add a few leaves into the sorbet itself too if you wish, but ensure you have a really powerful blender to ensure the leaves are thoroughly blended into the sorbet.
Recommended tools to make this grape sorbet recipe
- Digital kitchen scales*: I always recommend using digital kitchen scales to weigh ingredients out over using a volume based measuring system, as cups. Weighing out the ingredients is much more accurate than measuring by volume, and will ensure better results in the cookies, so I would definitely take the plunge if you have not already.
- Baking tray*: to freeze the grapes on before blending to make this frozen grapes sorbet.
- Lemon squeezer*: makes squeezing the juice out of the lime so much easier!
- Food processor*: a high powered machine to blitz the frozen grapes and other ingredients really well is absolutely essential. You want a really good machine to ensure the sorbet is as smooth as possible for making this grape sorbet without ice cream maker.
- Spatula*: to help with getting every last bit of this incredible sorbet out of the blender and into the container to freeze.
- Ice cream scoop*: helps scoop out beautiful round balls of this delightful sorbet!
How to make grape sorbet
Making a sorbet is actually so much easier than you might think! The key is ensuring you have a really REALLY good food processor as this is key to getting a really smooth sorbet for the best finished results. Simply freeze the grapes, then blend together will all the other ingredients until completely smooth. Scoop and serve immediately or transfer to a freezer safe container and return to the freezer until ready to enjoy!

Step 1: Remove all the stems from the grapes, then wash and dry them thoroughly. Place in a flat layer on a baking tray with a lip, then freeze for at least 3-4 hours or overnight.

Step 2: Place the frozen grapes along with the sugar, lime juice and white rum (if using) in a high powered blender and blend until completely pureed and smooth. Make sure to scrape down the container a few times to ensure everything is well blended and nothing missed.

Step 3: Transfer the sorbet to a freezer safe container and freeze until set before scooping and serving. Enjoy!

What grapes should I use to make sorbet?
Always use the best quality ingredients when making any sorbet. Since there are so few ingredients used in the recipe, it is important to keep them as good quality, as this is what will give the flavour to the finished dessert. I used mojito grapes to make this mojito grape sorbet, but the variations are endless! Another firm favourite in our home is cotton candy grape sorbet using cotton candy grapes! Yum!
How do I serve sorbet?
Sorbet is not dissimilar to ice cream, so it should be served straight from the freezer. I like to serve it simply as a scoop or two with a slice of lime and a sprig of mint to garnish.
How do I store sorbet?
Always store sorbet as you would ice cream. It should be kept in the freezer right up until serving. Sorbet melts a lot more easily than dairy-based ice cream does, so ensure it is kept as cold as possible for the best results!
Top tips for making the best sorbet
- Remove the grapes from the stalks, discarding any brown grapes, then wash and dry thoroughly before freezing. Preparation of the fruit is important for really good, clean results with the best flavour.
- Grapes are best frozen in a flat layer. This allows each one to freeze really thoroughly, but also aids them not to stick together during freezing, which would make it a lot harder to separate and blend once frozen!
- Make sure to use a really powerful blender for the smoothest results. If your food processor isn’t powerful enough, you could try using a smoothie maker instead before transferring the whizzed up sorbet into a container and freezing again until firm.
- Add in a few torn mint leaves if you wanted a slightly mintier flavour to the sorbet. This requires a really powerful blender to work or you will have bits of unblended mint throughout the sorbet.
- When scooping, dip the ice cream scoop in water, then shake it off before scooping for perfect balls of sorbet. Re-dip in between scoops for clean results.
